Clinical Insights

Clinical Insights is a new pilot program led by EMPHN in collaboration with Monash University academics and local clinicians which enables GPs to use their own data for personalised insights. This may help GPs identify areas for improvement, based on local data-informed priorities.

What is the Clinical Insights program?

Our goal is to provide the right data, at the right time, to help inform the care GPs are delivering to support optimal patient outcomes. As part of this goal, we are piloting the Clinical Insights program with the aim of establishing it as a permanent initiative.

The Clinical Insights program feeds back clinical performance data to GPs for reflection and improvement purposes. The Clinical Insights report uses data from GPs’ clinical management software, submitted to the Population Level Analysis Reporting (POLAR) database by practices.

What are the benefits of the Clinical Insights program?

Fulfilling Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours

This program creates a new CPD offering by leveraging existing data. GPs can use the Clinical Insights report as part of a mini-audit and record Measuring Outcomes and Reviewing Performance CPD hours.

Administration efficiencies

GPs can save time in the data collection step of a mini-audit by identifying patients that meet the criteria of clinical topic.

Improving patient outcomes

The program can help to identify areas of improvement to optimise patient outcomes.

GPs can compare their own practice against best practice standards and performance of their peers.

How does the Clinical Insights report work?

Clinical Insights reports will focus on topics of regional and national priority, identified with clinicians in the EMPHN catchment. Evidence-based guidelines and data on GP peer performance is used to provide insights on opportunities for improvement.

GPs can then use these insights for learning, CPD opportunities and continuous improvement over time.
