Introducing the Clinical Insights Pilot Program
Eastern Melbourne PHN invites expressions of interest to join the Clinical Insights Pilot Program. We are looking for general practices to help us test the acceptability and feasibility of this program.

What is Clinical Insights?
Clinical Insights is a program which feeds back clinical performance data to GPs for reflection and improvement purposes. GPs will receive a condition-specific Clinical Insights report that compare GP’s own practice data from POLAR with latest evidence-based guidelines and GP peer performance data.
We have co-designed Clinical Insights reports with academics from Monash University and local GPs for two topics:
- Secondary cardiovascular disease prevention post stroke/transient ischaemic attack (TIA)
- Chronic kidney disease screening (CKD)
Who can participate?
Privately GP-owned practices within the EMPHN catchment, currently using POLAR. Practices must also be seeing adult patients who are diagnosed with hypertension and/or diabetes; and/or diagnosed with stroke/TIA.
What is involved?
For the practice:
General practice owners consent to:
- Their practice taking part in the pilot program, including use of POLAR data to generate feedback reports
- Receiving a Clinical Insights report via email
- Participating in evaluation activities (15-minute survey and a 45-minute interview)
General practice owners also need to nominate a practice liaison from their practice (themselves or another staff member), who will be supported by EMPHN to recruit individual GPs within their practice to participate in the pilot.
For individual GPs and/or practice staff working in the consent practice:
Individual GPs consent to:
- Receiving a Clinical Insights report via email
- Participating in evaluation activities (15-minute survey and a 45-minute interview)
GPs can choose to reflect on the report, identify areas of improvement and plan actions.
Practice staff consent to:
- Participating in evaluation activities (30-minute interview)
Why participate?
- Clinical Insights is a mini-audit activity and GPs can record Measuring Outcomes and Reviewing Performance CPD hours
- GPs can save time spent on data collection by identifying patients that meet the clinical topic
- GPs can compare their own practice against best practice standards and performance of their peers
- GPs can optimise patient outcomes by identifying practice improvement areas and planning actions
Reimbursement for your time
Practices will receive a one-off $1,000 reimbursement towards administrative time.
GPs participating in the evaluation activities conducted by Monash University (a 15-minute survey and a 45-minute interview) will receive a $155 electronic gift card as a token of appreciation.
Other practice staff participating in the evaluation activities conducted by Monash University (a 30-minute interview) will receive a $70 electronic gift card as a token of appreciation.
